Revolutionizing Dementia Detection with ImpactSense Gait Analysis Technology

After an incredible 20-year journey with MEGAComfort, and two years afterwards leading the Research & Development at our tech startup MEGA InTech, I’m thrilled to introduce ImpactSense.

ImpactSense is a groundbreaking technology that detects Dementia through gait analysis — providing a cost-effective, non-invasive, and unbiased early screening tool in just a 30 step walk.

My journey into the world of Dementia is deeply personal and began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when my father was diagnosed with late-stage Dementia. After a long wait for a specialist, his diagnosis came down to a few questions and a single, highly subjective cognitive test. Other more definitive clinical tests were far too invasive and not readily available or accessible. The whole experience made it painfully clear how inadequate our current screening and diagnostic tools are — and how urgently better solutions are needed.

In my search for answers, I discovered the powerful link between gait changes and cognitive decline. What started as a concept — using gait as a biomarker for neurological deterioration — evolved into a robust R&D initiative in partnership with the University of Waterloo leading to the ImpactSense Technology of today.

My time at MEGAComfort was filled with learning, growth, and collaboration with inspiring people — many of whom I’m very fortunate to be connected with here on LinkedIn and I'm very grateful for all the experiences that shaped my career in the occupational health and safety industry.

Now, I’m focused on helping the millions of people at risk of dementia — and their families — make better-informed care decisions through earlier detection. As new treatments continue to emerge, early diagnosis is more critical than ever in the battle to help slow the disease progression.
